Introduction to the Vinstar Bank Training Series

Vinstar is a well established company of professional banking specialists based in New Zealand and operating internationally. Our skills have been developed and successfully applied in industrialised, newly industrialised, developing and transitional economies. We have worked with banking clients operating in OECD, South East Asian, South Asian and South Pacific cultures. Our services include consultancy, training, provision of business solutions and information technology. Most importantly, we know how to listen, we know how to analyse and we know how to deliver on the unique needs of our clients.

Banking clients recognise a vital training need

In these uncertain times, an increasing number of bank employees are asked to make difficult “judgement calls” that will affect the profitability of their organisations. The risk of making the “wrong” call is very high. It is obvious however, that employees with strong banking skill sets are better placed to make the “right” call. As a consequence, many of our banking clients have recognised the pressing need to provide broad based banking skills training to large numbers of their “front line” staff.

How best to provide a solution

Unfortunately, traditional seminar based training is primarily effective in delivering specialised training to small groups. What our clients requested was a more appropriate method of upskilling.

Clients identified the following key needs:

  • to quickly train large numbers of staff;

  • to deliver high quality training in a cost effective manner; and

  •  to minimise the impact of this training on the daily operation of the organisation.

Vinstar recognised that these needs could be met by providing training based upon distance learning principles. These principles require the development of comprehensive learning materials that are tightly focused and follow a structured and iterative approach.

Course materials should incorporate the following design principles:

  •  introduce and fully explain concept;

  • demonstrate concept, through extensive use of case studies and examples;

  • practice concept, through searching self assessment questions; and

  • test for understanding of concept, through comprehensive self assessment answers.

How Vinstar met the challenge

We decided to develop the Vinstar Bank Training Series which focuses on the delivery of core banking skills utilising distance learning principles.

Using our breadth of experience in the field of international banking, we identified appropriately qualified Subject Matter Experts. We then commissioned them to write courses that our banking clients considered to be of key importance to their organisations. Course structure was based upon exemplary standards of instructional design, integrated with international “best practice”.

After many months of research, writing and review, based upon years of practical “on the job” experience, the Vinstar Bank Training Series became a reality.

How the Bank Training Series is structured

The structure of the Vinstar Bank Training Series is best illustrated as follows:

The Vinstar Bank Training Series consists of a number of discrete courses covering specific banking topics.

Each Course consists of self contained modules designed specifically for self study, thereby allowing students to work at their own pace, at a time and location convenient for themselves and their employer.

Every Module consists of a series of topics, each of which incorporate case studies and examples.

At the conclusion of each topic, students complete the self assessment questions and then review the answers. This approach tests the students understanding of concept.

An examination, which tests overall comprehension of each Module, is separately set and marked by the actual Subject Matter Expert.
